Cosmetic Surgery Caution
Recently, there has been an emergence of an illegal procedure called the “booty shot”, using liquid silicone injections into the buttocks. Liquid silicone, although commonly used to enhance lips, is strongly discouraged as a source of enhancement for the buttocks region. Many providers offer the substance as a solution to butt augmentation, however we at the Escobedo Skin Center, are against the practice. There have been a plethora of cases by patients suffering from organ failure and even death from the use of silicone injected in the buttocks. Last year, former Miss Argentina Solange Magnano passed away due to pulmonary embolism as a result of poorly injected liquid silicone to the buttocks. Other reports have shown that some practitioners have used industrial silicone rather than medical grade silicone as the substance for buttock enhancement. Last March, six women in New Jersey suffered serious health conditions when being injected with industrial silicone, the same product used by plumbers to caulk bathtubs.
