Platelet-Rich Plasma: PRP Injections

PRP stands for platelet-rich plasma which is a substance produced within the human body’s blood. PRP contains a variety of growth factors, cytokines, interleukins, interferon’s, and platelets which, when combined, are essential in providing the body what it needs to heal after an injury.

PRP injections are used to aid in the healing and regeneration of injured tissues such as skin, muscles, joints, tendons, and blood vessels. Platelet-rich plasma may improve the appearance of skin and stimulate hair growth.

Healing & Regeneration consists of three phases. The Inflammatory Phase is the body’s natural response to injury. The main cells involved include phagocytic neutrophils and macrophages. The Proliferation Phase is characterized by the production of granulation tissue consisting of collagen and extracellular matrix including the development of new blood vessels that increase nutrition and oxygen to target tissues. The Maturation Phase involves the remodeling of type III collagen (pliable) into type I collagen (stiff).

Escobedo Esthetics offers a technology used to extract PRP (platelet-rich plasma) by collecting whole blood from a patient where it is later placed in a centrifuge for the separation process. The PRP extracted is either injected directly and/or topically applied over the skin to ignite a more youthful appearance.

We strongly recommend the use of a mixture of PRP (platelet-rich plasma) and BMSC (bone marrow derived stem cells) in conjunction with the Dermapen Microneedling Collagen Induction Therapy for maximum impact.

Bone Marrow Derived Stem Cells: BMSC Injections

BMSC also known as bone marrow derived stem cells are contained within the body’s bone system. Bone marrow stem cells are the only cell capable of differentiating into multiple cell lines such as myocytes, chondrocytes, osteocytes, fibroblasts, adipocytes, and stromal cells that produce muscle, collagen, bone, connective tissue, fat cells, and blood vessels to promote healing. In fact, BMSC are the predominant cells used to grow entire body parts in the laboratory. On the contrary, the popular ADSC (adipose derived stem cells) taken from liposuction procedures only differentiate into fat, connective tissue, and blood vessels.

BMSC are known as the pre-eminent 911 emergency responders to an injury. Chemical signals activate the BMSC into action where they gain access to injured tissue via the vast blood vessel network throughout the body.

Bone marrow derived stem cells in combination with platelet-rich plasma provide a balanced response to healing and regeneration. For the most part, platelet-rich plasma and ADSC (adipose derived stem cells) activate the majority of inflammatory growth factors; whereas, BMSC (bone marrow derived stem cells) produce anti-inflammatory growth factors. The net effect of combining PRP & BMSC is an anti-inflammatory regenerative process.

Bone marrow derived stem cells are obtained through a proprietary method. The harvested bone marrow is processed through a filtration system where it is combined with platelet-rich plasma prior to centrifugation. The final emulsion of bone marrow stem cells and platelet-rich plasma is either injected directly and/or topically applied over the skin initiating a cascade of regenerative processes.

We strongly recommend the use of a mixture of platelet-rich plasma and bone marrow stem cells in conjunction with the Dermapen Microneedling Collagen Induction Therapy procedure for maximum impact.

How do BMSC and PRP Injections Help?

Once injected into the tissue, bone marrow derived stem cells and platelet-rich plasma activate a cascade of reactions leading to the regeneration of target cells. BMSC and PRP injections are bioactive stimulators, not fillers. The effect is likened to rebirth of new skin.

PRP (Platelet-rich Plasma) and BMSC (Bone Marrow derived Stem Cells) injections are effective for the improvement of:

  • Fine lines around the eyes known as crow’s feet
  • Fine lines and wrinkles of the face
  • Skin tone and texture
  • Full face rejuvenation
  • Décolletage wrinkles and fine lines
  • Dull dry skin
  • Lifeless skin of the hands
  • Hair loss or alopecia
  • Abnormal Pigmentation
  • Arthritis

The most exciting feature about PRP & BMSC injections is that it is natural. There is nothing artificial or modified.

PRP & BMSC injections are usually combined with other treatments offered by Dr. Escobedo such as:

  • Dermapen Microneedling Collagen Induction Therapy
  • UltraPulse Fractional CO2 Laser Therapy

Note: in most cases, patients will require multiple treatment sessions six weeks apart.

How long does it take to administer a PRP & BMSC treatment?

Each session is about one hour in length. There is some social downtime to allow for proper regeneration.

What is the fee for PRP & BMSC Injections?

The cost of injections starts at $1,000 per session.

*Note–Most providers harvest 10cc of whole blood and return 4cc of PRP. We harvest 100cc of whole blood and return 20cc of PRP (10 times more concentrated). We also harvest 60cc of bone marrow. The concentration of our PRP & BMSC is incredibly high. Our system provides a very potent and highly concentrated mixture of growth factors to give you the greatest advantage from each session.
